1. Explore the Nerja Caves
Discovered accidentally in 1959 by some local children from Maro, the Nerja Caves have become one of the town’s top attractions. Here you can explore the world’s largest column, a Guiness Book of World Records holder since 1989, and see the oldest Neanderthal cave paintings in the world. In fact, archaeologists date the paintings to being over 10,000 years old.

2. Go on a Hiking Trip

For adventurers and active travelers, there’s no better view in Nerja than that of the one found at the top of El Cielo. As the highest costal mountain in the region, El Cielo is a whopping 1,508 meters tall with views that will take your breath away. The whole hike up to the peak is a scenic treat on its own. The Sierra Nevada foothills is also great for an easy hike.

There’s honestly no way you can spend a holiday in Nerja and not take advantage of all of its gorgeous beaches. Nerja is known to have the most beautiful beaches in the whole Costa del Sol area. Explore a hidden cove in Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo or spend your day lapping up the sun, surf and sand at Burianna and El Playazo.
4. Take A Long Leisurely Walk

In the mood for a little romance or just a nice scenic walk in general? Head to the Balcón de Europa, the town’s most well known landmark, and explore the area on foot. You can look forward to a rewarding panoramic view of the coast while experiencing first hand the town’s typical activities.

5. Visit the Prettiest Village in Andalusia

When people say that Frigiliana is the most beautiful village in Andalusia, they really mean it. Even the Spanish tourism authority has recognized this quaint little village and it’s gorgeous location. Venture off into the village’s maze of cobbled streets and capture some great images of the fabulous whitewashed homes decorated with vibrant flowers.

6. Dig Into Paella

Nerja is bursting with joints specializing in paella, so there’s no excuse to miss out on this delightful and so-very-Spanish dish. The best place to enjoy paella is at Ayo’s along Burriana beach. The combination of the deep flavors and the gorgeous view of the beach is unbeatable.

7. Explore the Beaches Less Travelled

While the top beaches of Nerja are absolutely magnificent, sometimes you just need to escape from the crowd. During your vacation in Nerja, try to visit one of the lesser known beaches to enjoy peace and quiet while still taking in the spectacular views of Costa del Sol’s beaches. Insider tip? La Caleta de Maro is one of the more secluded and more peaceful beaches.

8. Soak Up Some History

For a well rounded trip to Nerja, experiencing some of the town’s history is a must. The Eagle Aqueduct is a great choice to see some historically significant architecture because of its beauty and proximity to the city. While the construction of the aqueduct was primarily for the use of a sugar cane factory, it is still used today for local irrigation.

9. Have a Drink by the Beach

It’s never to early to have a drink when you’re on vacation. Brunch time? Have a mimosa! Is it well into the afternoon? Grab a cerveza. No matter what your preferred alcoholic beverage is, grab it and head over to one of Nerja’s many fantastic beaches with a few of your friends and just savor the utter relaxation that it brings.
