Hello, animal lovers! For all of you who are looking to enjoy natural wonders of Fresno Chaffee Zoo, this can serve as a manual including things you should prioritize upon your visit. The zoo opened in 1908 and it went a long way since then, with 800 000 people visited in 2015. Fresno Zoo is now a member of World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It is a modern zoo, designed to make a closer connection to the animals and it is a great source of fun.
1. Species
At first, it was a home to unwanted pets, 2 bears and 50 different species of birds. Today, nearly 190 species inhabit the Fresno Zoo. Many more are coming. Fresno Chaffee Zoo is also a home to approximately 40 species that are either endangered or extinct in the wild.
2. Sea Lion Cove
Sea Lion Cove is one of the most exquisite sea lion exhibits in the country. The sound of crashing waves, barking sea lions, harbor seals, and incredible brown pelicans. You can get so close to the window that you could seemingly reach out and touch them. Follow the path down to the 35 feet underwater observing window, where you can look at these amazing creatures glide gracefully under the water, delivering whimsical acrobatics through the underwater archway. In 2014, Fresno Chaffee Zoo was awarded the prestigious Association of Zoos and Aquariums Top Honor Exhibit Award for the Sea Lion Cove exhibit.
3. African Adventure
African Adventure features new animal species in spectacular, realistic exhibits, as well as many multi-species, that together will imitate the African plains and savannas. African Adventure is a state-of-the-art home for lions, a family herd of African elephants, cheetahs, white rhinoceros, a brand new giraffe feeding station, and a restaurant called the Kopje Lodge! It provides opportunities for cultural discovery, interactive play locations and engaging live interpretation for all ages. African Adventure offers guests a wildlife experience that is really rare in zoos today.
4. Valley Farm
At Valley Farm zoo visitors have the chance to pet and interact with various animals native to the Central Valley, including sheep, chickens, a dairy cow, goats. and other farm animals. In addition to animals, there is also a demonstration garden of crops essential to Fresno County agriculture. Visitors can learn about how Valley farmers grow and irrigate produce. This exhibit is primarily designed to educate young people about agriculture.
5. Stingray bay
At Stingray Bay, you can touch or feed cow-nose rays and southern stingrays as they float beneath your fingertips. It is a safe and entertaining adventure for the whole family. The admission is $2 per person for non-members. Members get the free admission. $1 per person per feeding.
6. Dino Dig
Do you want a career in paleontology? Unearth a full-size T-Rex and other fossils, like a real paleontologist in the Dino Dig. Tools are available in the digging site. This is free with Zoo admission. You can hang out with Buddy the Dinosaur from Dinosaur Train, reveal bones in the Zoo’s Dino Dig, take a good look at Ross Laird’s Winged Wonders Bird Show and much more.
7. King Cobra Exhibit
One of the unique features of the King Cobra exhibit is the floor to ceiling glass enclosure, giving not only visitors a freakish scene, but the reptiles as well. The possibility for the animals to get down on an eye level with the people when they are in their environment will really create an impact and cause some excitement behind that species.
