An hour away from Omura City is the Nagasaki Airport. It is located on an island that is 4 KM or 2.5 miles west of the train station from the city. This airport service Japan’s major airlines JAL and ANA. Although not so frequent, there are also nonstop carriers that fly internationally to and from Nagasaki Airport.

When you happen to go to Nagasaki via plane, know that you are landing on an artificial island. Before the runway, you should be aware that it used to be rugged hills flattened to fill the stretch of land forming this beautiful airport. They opened this airport as a military aerodrome in 1923. In 1955, it started to open its doors for civilian use. These days, aside from being an international and domestic airport, Japan Maritime Self-Defense is also using it for helicopter flights.
