An airport on an artificial island in the Aichi Prefecture, the Nagoya Airport is located 22 miles south of Nagoya, Central Japan. This airport serves the third largest metropolitan in Japan with passengers entering and leaving the Chubu Region. This international airport is a first class airport with major roles in domestic and international aviation needs of the region.

Nagoya International Airport is also known as Chubu Centrair. It replaced the old Nagoya Airport (now Nagoya Airfield) in 1995 and now has taken over most flights from major carriers in Japan and around the world.

1. Terminal

The terminal was supposed to look like an origami crane, which is an ambitious attempt due to the cost that it involved. The airport management settled to shape the terminal like the letter ‘T”. The domestic flights and international flights are adjacent to each other. The Domestic Terminal is in the north, and the International Terminal is in the south of the airport. There are twenty-seven gates, thirteen of which are for the Domestic Flights. Fourteen gates are for the International Flights. The arrival area is on the second floor. If you are looking for a bank, locate the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ on the third floor. There are also six foreign currency booths and eleven ATMs all over the terminal. Know that the exchange rates could differ per booth, so we recommend that you double-check the rates on the counter before you complete the transaction. Centrair Airport got you covered if you need an accommodation right after landing, a day before your flight, or if you are on a layover. There are three hotels on the island. The Centrair Hotel is very near the airport terminal that you can just walk to the gates to check-in. The Comfort Hotel is accessible through the walkway connecting the hotel and the Access Plaza. The Access Plaza located in the heart of the Chubu Centrair Airport is the hub of transport related activities. The airport is accessible by train, which is the quickest way to get to the airport. You can also rent a car if you feel more comfortable having your own ride. Taxis are also available for a metered fare. Information Counters are seen on each floor of the terminal. At the Arrivals Lobby, the Tourist Information is specifically helpful for tourists and travelers who need more information about the airport. Bus tickets and train tickets are sold here. There is no language barrier on the second floor’s tourist center. The staff is able to communicate in English, Chinese, and Korean. Brochures and pamphlets are available for your reference if you need to visit the main attractions of Japan. If you wish to have your baggage delivered to you instead of you carrying it all around, for a fee this tourist center will deliver your bags to your doorsteps.

Each floor is equipped with baggage storage counters. Lockers are also available on the second and third floor of the airport. You may also inquire at the Access Plaza for available lockers. Short-term baggage counters will accommodate your things for more than five days. Delivery service is also available. You may reach out to the Post Office if you need to use their service. For items delivered to and from the airport, you may go to the Arrivals Lobby to send packages. To pick-up a package, you may go to the delivery counter of the Departures Lobby.

You can also bring them to the Observation Deck area where they have plenty of space to run around. If you want to roam the airport especially the shops, there are strollers for rent at the Information Counters. There are also individual rooms where families can relax. A nursing chair, washstand, and a changing station are available. All restrooms are equipped with baby seats and toilets for little kids. If you are with an infant, nursing rooms are also available.

On the second floor of the Terminal is where you can find the airport clinic. Doctors are available daily for general consultations, first aid care, health exams, and immunizations. If you have a travel insurance that covers medical care, you do not need to worry because this clinic is affiliated with most travel insurance companies. You can also pay through credit cards if you do not have cash.

 15. Parking

A 24-hour a day parking operates for the airport. This facility can accommodate up to 5,800 vehicles. The parking area is located 10 minutes away from the Terminal Building if you are on foot. All parking in 30 minutes or less is free. If you park more than that, you will be charged a rental fee depending on the size of your vehicle. If you have a motorcycle, a different spot is provided. Since the parking prepay machine is unable to accommodate motorcycle parking fees, you will need to go the Parking Lot Administration Office to pay. For peak hours and holiday seasons and you cannot find a parking spot, go to the administration office because they might be able to provide a different place to park.
