Takayama is a metropolis in the mountainous Hida area of Gifu Prefecture. To distinguish it from different locations named Takayama, the city is also generally known as Hida-Takayama. Takayama retains a conventional contact like few different Japanese cities, particularly in its fantastically preserved old town. The Takayama Competition, held in spring and autumn, is considered certainly one of Japan’s finest festivals.

1. Go Takayama from Tokyo

By Train:

Take SHINKANSEN KAGAYAKI 513 from Tokyo to Toyama and then take JR Takayama Line for Inotani, from Inotani take JR Takayama Line for Takayama this will take 3 hours and cost around 7600yen.

By Bus:

Take Shinkansen Nozomi 117 from Tokyo to Nagoya and then take HIDA 17 Express from Nagoya bus terminal to Takayama this trip will cost you 8750yen and take 4 hours.

Take Shinkansen Nozomi 36 from Kyoto to Nagoya and take JR Tokaido Line New Rapid Train from Nagoya to Gifu and then JR Takayama Line from Gifu to Minoota and finally JR Takayama Line for Takayama This journey will cost you 5600yen.

By Bus:

Take Shinkansen Hikari 476 from Kyoto to Nagoya and from there you take a bus HIDA 17 Express from Nagoya to Takayama, this will take 4 hours and cost you around 5600yen.

Take JR Nikko Line for Utsunomiya and there you take Shinkansen Yamabiko 156 to Omiya and from Omiya take Shinkansen Hakutaka 577 to Toyama and then take JR Takayama Line for Inotani and from Inotani take another JR Takayama Line for GERO to Takayama this journey will cost you 9300yen and take 3.4 hours.

7. Go Takayama from Nagoya

Take JR Tokaido Line New Rapid Train for Ogaki to Gifu and from Gifu take JR Takayama Line for Minoota and from Minoota take another JR Takayama Line for TAKAYAMA this will cost you 3350 yen.

By Bus:

Take HIDA 15 Express from Nagoya to Takayama this will take 144 min and cost you around 3350yen.
